There is something extra sweet about a sunrise engagement proposal! I love the idea of a beautiful couple starting their day with such a sweet surprise moment together, and having the rest of the day to celebrate! As a Waynesville, NC photographer, I adored capturing this surprise marriage proposal along the shore of Lake Junaluska!
When Drake first contacted me about wanting his surprise engagement proposal to Molly captured, he knew that he wanted to propose at sunrise, somewhere near Asheville, NC. While on their trip to the area, they were staying farther west near Bryson City, NC, and were going to Asheville for the day. I offered Lake Junaluska as a perfect spot in between, to stop and propose, and then enjoy the rest of their day together. Drake agreed.
This beautiful spot on the shore of Lake Junaluska is easy to access, flat, typically quiet, and has a beautiful view of the mountains. It’s perfect for this Waynesville, NC photographer when capturing family photo shoots, bridal portraits, and of course, proposals. I love its versatility with the lake, mountains, and chapel architecture.
On this particular morning, the air was cool, the grounds were quiet, the light was soft, and we only saw a few people nearby walking their dogs. When Drake and Molly arrived and parked their vehicle, I easily hid for a bit, and as they walked past me, I pretended to take photos of the lake with the mountain views. As they got closer to the proposal spot, I moved and pretended to take landscape photos in another direction, all while watching them out of the corner of my eye. Once Drake dropped down on one knee, I turned and captured their entire proposal! It was such a wonderful few moments to capture!
Once Molly and Drake had a few minutes to take it all in, I approached them, introduced myself, and explained to Molly that Drake hired me for a full engagement photoshoot, right then and there. She was so happy and loved the idea of photos in this beautiful location!
As we captured their engagement photos, both Molly and Drake were so happy that they couldn’t stop smiling. I loved their BIG love, big connection, and how they never let go of one another during our time together. Not letting go of one another is truly a testament to their strong bond and how much they enjoy being together.
As a Waynesville, NC photographer, I am fortunate enough to capture beautiful surprise proposals often, and I loved capturing this one at sunrise! This lake location is absolutely gorgeous and I love that Drake chose this very spot to ask Molly to marry him! It was flawless and stunning! Congratulations, you two!
