North Carolina is such a beautiful state, with great diversity from mountain tops to where the ocean meets the shore, with gardens, historic estates, beautiful lakes, waterfalls, and more in between. I am a mountain girl, so this list of the Best Places to Propose in NC is in the mountains!
As an Asheville, NC resident and a full time photographer here since 2012, I am immersed in these mountains and places to propose every day! It’s amazing to see my favorite places, and regularly find more amazing proposal locations for the best places to propose in NC while I am driving around the area in my daily life!
Blue Ridge Parkway
Hands down one of the best places to propose in NC is along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This magnificent road, taken care of by the National Park Service, runs from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, all along ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains. That means that on most sections of this road, drivers are high enough to have long range mountain views! This wonderful road in itself has hundreds of pull offs and overlooks that are beautiful enough for any proposal, with those long range mountain views, of course! It also provides access to countless hiking trails that allow for quieter spots to propose. From short hikes to long hikes, there are many amazing locations to propose on and off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Biltmore Estate
Biltmore Estate is a historical gem in Asheville that boasts incredibly diverse offerings and there is something for everyone! Love history? Consider proposing with the house in the background. Love the mountains? Consider proposing in an open field with mountain views. Partial to a waterfall? They have one of those on the property too! Oh, and gardens! Do you love fresh blooms? If so, you must check out their immaculately cared for gardens in the warmer months, and their giant conservatory year round! From tulips to azaleas and roses to ornamental grasses, they have it all, and it’s designed differently each year!
This privately owned 8,000 acre estate is definitely one of the best places to propose in NC. It is open to the public every day of the year, is absolutely magnificent, and I highly recommend considering hosting your proposal here!
Craggy Gardens Flat + Craggy Pinnacle
Only a short 40 minute drive from Asheville, these two trail heads sit just a 1/4 mile apart on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Both require a short 10-15 minute hike to the most amazing long range mountain views! Craggy Gardens Flat is just as it sounds, somewhat flat at the top, with a wide open field full of tall grass. Craggy Pinnacle is also as it sounds, a pointy rock top with a viewing area. Both are easily one of the best places to propose in NC, especially at sunrise and sunset when the sun is golden and soft!
Rough Ridge Trail
Oh how Rough Ridge Trail has my heart! This gorgeous wide open trail is one of my favorites in North Carolina! It’s a shorter hike, taking about 15 minutes to go to the top, but don’t let the short distance fool you. The views are absolutely gorgeous! With large boulders and a boardwalk to walk on near the top, I truly feel like I am on top of the world here! And for that, it is one of the best places to propose in NC.
Lake Junaluska
A lake and mountain views for your proposal? Yes, please! This quiet spot on the shore of Lake Junaluska is tucked away behind a gorgeous stone church with enough of its own charm to almost make this list. It’s a smaller area with parking very close, though you wouldn’t know it with the diversity of the lake, mountain views, and church architecture! I adore this spot, and so does every client that I have taken here, which is why it is one of the best places to propose in NC.
