In an area as beautiful as western North Carolina, where there are endless mountain views, gorgeous hikes, a cute urban downtown area, and an utterly impressive attraction like Biltmore Estate, there are countless places to propose! So, as a veteran proposal photographer in Asheville, I have pulled together my top 5 places to propose in Asheville NC!

1. Biltmore Estate
Biltmore Estate is at the top of my list of places to propose in Asheville NC, not only because it’s iconic, but also because the variety of proposal locations here is plentiful! Sure, we can definitely capture your proposal on the esplanade hill with the house and mountains as your backdrop (it’s one of my favorite spots!) We can also capture your proposal in the flower garden, among the azaleas when they are in bloom, in an open field with mountain views, on the shore of a pond, next to the amazing intricacies of Biltmore Estate’s architecture, or in a manicured field where it’s rare to see someone else. Truly, the options are countless, from a very quiet spot to the center of it all, and they are all so incredibly beautiful!
2. The NC Arboretum
With manicured gardens in warmer months, mountain views year round, and hardscapes that are gorgeous in every season, The NC Arboretum easily makes the list of places to propose in Asheville NC. On a typical day, The NC Arboretum is fairly quiet with some guests meandering through the gardens, while most guests are hiking and biking on their backcountry trails. This leaves the main area uncrowded and perfect for a surprise proposal!
3. Asheville Botanical Garden
From open green space and trails, to creek access and bridges, Asheville Botanical Garden has all the variety needed for a perfect proposal! This is one of the quieter gardens and parks in Asheville, but don’t let that fool you, it’s gorgeous and completely underrated! Asheville Botanical Garden is set up like a park with native plants, open green spaces, creeks, bridges, a gazebo, and more. When standing in the park, you’ll feel immersed in nature, and can enjoy the beauty of our area. It’s one of my favorite places to propose in Asheville NC due to its quietness, beauty, and diversity during every season!
4. Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles from Shenandoah National Park on the north end, to Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the south end, and it runs directly through the city of Asheville. We are so fortunate to have this thoroughfare to take us directly to trail heads and overlooks, where we can step into nature so easily. With the many overlooks along the parkway, we have endless options for mountain view photos, which is why it makes my list of places to propose in Asheville NC. Some overlooks are simply a small paved pulloff, and others have sidewalk and grassy areas to give us space to capture your proposal photos in the beauty of our mountains!
5. Craggy Gardens Flats
Requiring only a 1/3 mile hike from the Blue Ridge Parkway along a nature trail with an easy to moderate climb, this is a perfect mountain top location for engagement proposals! Once you reach Craggy Garden Flats, the view is incredible! I love this spot for proposals because there is always room to find a quiet area, even on busy days, and the tall grass on the flat is gorgeous in photos! This is truly a gem of a location for places to propose in Asheville NC!
